We have been down in Hatteras for the past couple of weeks. We have been doing this the past several years with the Family during the Hatteras Marlin Club( one first, youth angler, lady angler and a fourth over the years) and friends during the Hatteras Grand Slam ( five first places over the years). This year the inlet was a problem and several days we had to run through Ocracoke Inlet which wasn’t much better. We did miss out on some great tuna fishing while we were gone, hard to be at two places at once.
The Hatteras Marlin Club is my Families favorite week of the summer. Everyday they serve breakfast before fishing, lunch for those not fishing and heavy appetizers every night. The boys are surrounded by tons of kids and activities and Nancy gets to catch up with the other moms. There is also a kids day in the middle of the week with contest, climbing tower, waterslides and a mechanical bull. That night is the big party with a band and costume contest ,which I’ve never dressed up for in the past. I got off my butt and won.Fishing was slow and we had a shot at a sail and caught some bailers and blackfins.
Hatteras Grand Slam is a great community event that we have fished for several years and this year was hosted by the HMC. Fishing was a little better with a good sign of sails and bailers. This year Charles and Brown rode with us reeling in four sails. We came in third this year.
